The Intelligent Investor

Warren Buffet recalled that finding this book was one of the luckiest days in his life. There are principles in this book you can start applying today such as diversification strategies and dollar-cost averaging. If I could go back in time, I would try to read this book before I started any investing. I have a detailed summary of this book you can check out here.

BBC Global News Podcast

I listen to this 20-30 minute podcast on Spotify (maybe 2-3 times a week), and I believe this is a great daily recap of all the major news around the world. I found out about the novel coronavirus back in November of 2019, well before the outbreak in the US. They were reporting about an unknown respiratory virus emerging in China. Knowing this ahead of time gave me time to transition my investments to safer areas before the large dip in March-April of 2020. I think staying current with world news, especially world financial news, is key to understanding and planning for the trends.

Robinhood’s Snacks Daily

HYHYSD (Have you had your Snacks Daily)? This quick 10-15 minute podcast on Spotify covers all the major stock market news of the day; mergers, IPOs, earnings, and much more business news. The team at Snacks also manages to make the podcast interesting and fun with their almost improvisational style.

How I Made $2000000 in the Stock Market

I found this book tucked away at King’s Used Books in Detroit. This book tells the story of a dancer, Nicolas Jarvis, who made $2 million dollars in the stock market in the course of 18 months. This book also outlines his journey of learning about stocks and developing his own strategy for picking stocks, entry, and exit points. This book is a quick read, full of detailed examples, and is a pretty interesting story – there are also a few tips that I’ve picked up that I utilize in my “speculation portfolio.”

Rich Dad Poor Dad

This book greatly changed my perspective on money – how I spend it, what it means to save it and invest it, and what it means to have money work for you. This book helped me expand my mindset and helped me understand the difference between making money and building wealth.

The Inevitable

This book covers emerging technological trends; things that seem to be in our near future, such as artificial intelligence and the global sharing economy, to technologies that seem to be in the extremely distant future such as a planetary matrix for human travel. The author of this book shows technologies and trends that are inevitably going to take over in the long-term future.
